Planning a road trip or weekend away? Use this simple pet travel checklist to remember food, water, restraints, bedding and everyday essentials.

Travelling with a pet becomes much easier when you prepare their essentials before leaving home.
Whether you are taking a short drive or spending a weekend away, this checklist can help you stay organised.
Food
Bring enough of your pet’s usual food for the trip, plus a little extra in case your plans change.
Keeping their normal food routine can also make travelling simpler.
Drinking water
Bring water and something your pet can comfortably drink from.
Portable bowls and pet travel bottles are convenient when you are away from home.
Lead, collar and harness
Pack the walking equipment you normally use at home.
Check everything before travelling to make sure clips, buckles and straps are working properly.
Carrier or suitable restraint
Think about how your pet will travel before getting into the vehicle.
The appropriate setup will depend on your pet, your vehicle and the type of journey.
Follow applicable road rules and manufacturer instructions for any restraint or carrier you use.
Bedding
Bringing something familiar from home can give your pet a comfortable place to rest.
Depending on the available space, this could include:
• Pet bed
• Travel mat
• Blanket
• Crate mat
Waste bags and cleaning supplies
Accidents happen, particularly during longer journeys.
Pack waste bags along with some basic cleaning supplies so you are prepared.
Favourite toy
A familiar toy can give your pet something to do once you arrive at your destination.
You do not need to pack too much. One or two favourites may be enough.
Medication and important information
If your pet takes medication, make sure you have enough for the entire trip.
Keep important identification and veterinary information accessible as well.
Before leaving home
Do one final check:
• Food
• Water
• Bowls
• Lead
• Collar or harness
• Carrier or restraint
• Bedding
• Waste bags
• Medication
• Favourite toy
A little preparation can make travelling with your pet much simpler.
