How to Keep Your Pet Comfortable During an Australian Summer
Hot Australian weather can change your pet's daily routine. Here are practical ways to provide shade, water and comfortable places to rest during summer.

Australian summers can bring very warm weather, so it is worth adjusting your pet’s routine when temperatures rise.
Here are some simple ways to help keep your pet comfortable.
Keep drinking water available
Make sure your pet has access to fresh drinking water.
Check water bowls regularly, particularly during warmer days.
If your pet spends time in different parts of your home, having more than one water station can also be convenient.
Provide a shaded place to rest
Pets spending time outside should have access to suitable shade.
Remember that the position of the sun changes throughout the day, so an area that is shaded in the morning may not remain shaded later.
Create a comfortable indoor area
A cooler area inside the home can give your pet somewhere to relax during the warmest part of the day.
Beds, mats and other resting areas can be moved away from direct sunlight when necessary.
Adjust walking times
When conditions are hot, consider walking earlier in the morning or later in the day.
Surfaces exposed to direct sunlight can become very warm, so consider the conditions before taking your dog for a walk.
Take water when you are away from home
If you are going on a longer walk or day trip, taking drinking water for your pet can be useful.
Portable bottles and collapsible bowls can make this easier.
Regular grooming
Regular grooming can help remove loose fur and keep your pet’s coat maintained.
Different coat types have different grooming requirements, so use products appropriate for your pet.
Never leave pets unattended in a hot vehicle
Vehicle interiors can become dangerously hot.
Do not leave your pet unattended inside a parked vehicle during warm conditions.
Prepare before hot weather arrives
You do not need a huge collection of summer products.
Start with the basics:
• Reliable access to fresh water
• A comfortable resting area
• Shade
• Appropriate walking equipment
• Portable water equipment when travelling
Then consider additional accessories based on your pet and your home.
